If you downloaded modules from github you surely must change the folder name. Remove -main or -master, but first check if the structure already exist.
Now you have to copy the module folder to the CMS module folder:

root/application/modules/
After this step you need to login into your admin account and head to the navigation click on Modules->Overview -> Not installed.
On the Module you see there you have a few small boxes available. Hover over them until you found install module and click on it.
After you installed the module it shouldnt be there in the list because it is now in the category installed. You surely can check if it is there or you head directly to the navigation click on Modules and check if it is somewhere in the list.
